FGBC Announces First Increase in Green Project Registration Fees in its 25 Year History

ST. PETERSBURG – The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green residential and commercial construction projects, land developments and local governments in the state has announced an increase in project registration fees for the first time in its 25-year history.

In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green standards tailored specifically to Florida. Over 35,000 green projects have been certified since 2000.

“There is a desire to continue to provide an affordable alternative to costly certification programs while balancing the increased costs associated with the certification process,” said FGBC President Bill Kachman.

The Board of Directors unanimously approved the following rate changes to effective January 1, 2025:

There is a $25 fee increase in all three categories of single family residential. For multi-family projects there is a $100 application fee for members, $200 per building and $25 per residence. $35 per residence for non-members.

Pricing for smaller high-rise building remained unchanged. Categories for larger buildings have been revised. There was a slight increase in smallest size commercial building and the size categories were modified.

Non-member fees are slightly higher. Land Development and Local Government fees are unchanged. The new fee structure can be found in the chart below.

FGBC’s five certifications provide pathways to build green homes, developments, local governments, high rises, and commercial buildings.

The FGBC “Florida Green” Certification Program tailors’ carbon-reducing, green building standards to the Florida climate, allowing builders, developers, and communities to meet green building standards while simultaneously constructing sustainable properties best suited for Florida’s ecosystem.

“Florida Green” standards take a scientific approach and are developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid environment, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency, and natural disasters.
